Keeping with their focus on customized solutions, Web Full Circle developed an application to allow projects components to be divided amongst citizens through an interactive website that provides you with all the benefits of interactivity without any of the hassles, i.e. time and scheduling constraints. When approaching this challenging project, Web Full Circle aimed to provide a means to increase participation by civic minded individuals who wanted to participate in the planning of their communities. To improve participation, Web Full Circle devised a multi-tiered plan focused on gaining buy-in by participants on various levels and the fruit of their efforts are now online at http://www.wikiplanning.org.
Among the customized features offered are picture viewing and commenting, interaction through commenting, participation in surveys all geared toward providing feedback that furthers planning and implementation in local communities. Among the additional features focused on providing enhanced interactivity are chat sessions which offer “live chat” and message boards. By providing participants the ability to communicate with each other, the application serves to bring a real sense of community to the virtual platform being utilized. Another intriguing feature is the ability to use interactive map to pin your location thereby enhancing understanding amongst participants as to the overall location of all those participants; among the many benefits of understanding participant locations is the ability to delegate tasks by location and to create groups within the overall planning group who work together based on their common location area. Among the potential scope of users are local governments, local agencies, nonprofit organizations and foundations all of whom are working to increase participation across economic, social and political lines.
